The Lowery - How the Design Came to Life
Returning to NC from Florida, the homeowners were yearning for a gourmet style kitchen that would be infused with deep,
rich color tones as well as a sophisticated, executive style.
They were continually drawn to deeper colors as a radical departure from
their Florida home which had incorporated a lot of white.

One eye-catching feature planned for this kitchen was the Italian-feeling stainless steel
chimney, above the professionally styled hood.
Vertical lines (in the chimney and full height Limestone backsplash) are key to opening up this kitchen.
Even though the kitchen itself is quite large in terms of square footage, the 9 foot ceiling height was competing
with the soaring vaulted ceilings in the surrounding rooms.
In creating the overall look of the cooktop wall, it was important to address the vertical dimensions to help the
kitchen stand out in the midst of several other strong features of this floor plan.
Angled Island - Hand Rendering

The granite is a Santa Fe Brown, which incorporates several deep coffee brown tones with a little bit of black.
Even though the Maple Espresso cabinet finish contains the same tones, the combination fits perfectly.
What's the lesson? You do not have to select a light granite just because you have dark cabinets!
This kitchen receives rave reviews from everyone who sees it.
Refrigerator and Microwave Wall - Hand Rendering

This kitchen boasts ample cabinet storage, which was requested by the homeowner to fit several sets of dishes.
We increased the length of cabinetry on the cooktop wall by taking a foot away from the
very large arched opening between the great room and kitchen nook.
We further increased the cabinet storage by eliminating the outdated kitchen desk that
was originally part of this kitchen layout.
The Lowery kitchen features three major "zones"
The "clean-up zone": to reduce traffic, we placed the sink, dishwasher, and double pull-out trash and recycling bins in the island.
The "fast snack zone": the under counter microwave and refrigerator are together on a separate wall for ease of access.
The "cooking zone": the cooktop and double ovens also have a wall of their own, with additional counter space for the cook to work free
of interruption.
